To the ATS Family:

It’s with great sadness that I have to tell you about the passing of one of our own, Barbara Moss. headshot
Barbara started with us a little over a year ago and was a mainstay of our Wednesday afternoon Process class. She brought her quick irreverent sense of humor with her every week and made friends fast. Within a couple of weeks of meeting Barbara, we were buds. Easy to do with her.

This talented woman was a nationally best-selling author — her memoir, Change Me Into Zeus’s Daughter, was raved about by the New York Times, the Chicago Tribune and USA Today. Her second book, Fierce, also was nationally sold, with multiple printings. Barbara was also an accomplished painter – her work sold for a LOT. And in acting class, she always did something that moved those of us watching. She was an astute observer of others’ work and managed to call it straight while staying supportive. We never got anything but the truth from her, as she saw it.

I got comfort today talking with Duane, Barbara’s husband. He said that at the end of her life, she died without pain and he felt that, at the end, she was ready to go. I also know, knowing Barbara for even this one short year, that she never gave up, that she lived her 54 years as fully as she possibly could and that she chose to live with hope despite being diagnosed with cancer six years ago.

We’re going to miss you Barbara Moss — we do already. But we’re never going to forget you and the beauty you brought with you, with which you touched us so deeply.

Folks, I hope you’ll take a moment to remember Barbara’s husband Duane, her son Jason and her whole (HUGE!) family in your thoughts and prayers. There’ll be a service for her in a few weeks — I’ll let you know. Barbara will be buried this week in her home town in Alabama.

Hold each other fast, guys. And be in touch, OK?

Andy
PS GetChange Me Into Zeus’s Daughter — it’s a great read.
